Brehm Communications sells three midwest dailies to Paxton Media

Paxton Media Group has purchased three newspapers in Indiana and Illinois – the Princeton Daily Clarion, the Mount Carmel Register and The Standard – from Brehm Communications, according to Randy Cope, Cribb, Greene & Cope, who represented Brehm in the transaction.
Paxton Media, a family-owned company headquartered in Paducah, Ky., owns more than 30 daily newspapers and numerous weekly publications across Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina and Tennessee. Brehm Communications is a family-owned newspaper group based in San Diego, California and owns newspapers in the midwest and western United States.

CRIBB GREEN COPE PUBLISHER CONFIDENCE SURVEY FALL 2016

Responses to the Fall 2016 Publisher Confidence Survey indicate publishers continue to be encouraged about the short term future, but are not as confident as they were a year ago. One hundred and twenty-five newspaper publishers/executives completed the 2016 Survey with 64% of respondents owning daily or daily/weekly newspapers and 36% owning primarily weekly publications.
Sixty percent of respondents continue to be interested in buying a newspaper and 65% might-or-would recommend their children seek a newspaper career, however both of these categories are down from 2015. In 2015, 75% said they might or would suggest newspapers as a career.

S.A.W. Advisors, LLC has acquired Star Local Media from 1013 Star Communications according to John Cribb, Cribb, Greene & Cope. Star Local Media publishes 14 community newspapers in the suburbs of Dallas, including The Allen American, Carrollton Leader, Celina Record, Coppell Gazette, Frisco Enterprise, Lake Cities Sun, Lewisville Leader, Little Elm Journal, Mesquite News, McKinney Courier-Gazette, Plano Star Courier, Rowlett Lakeshore Times, The (Flower Mound) Leader and The Colony Courier-Leader. Total weekly distribution exceeds 270,000 homes. The company also has 14 affiliated websites averaging over 600,000 page views monthly.
Brehm sells two dailies and three weeklies in Iowa and Illinois to Community Media Group.

Brehm Communications, Inc. has sold the assets of their Mississippi Valley Media Division based in Fort Madison and Keokuk, Iowa and Carthage, IL to Community Media Group of West Frankfort, Illinois according to Randy Cope of Cribb, Greene & Cope who represented the seller in the transaction. The publications include the Daily Democrat, Fort Madison, the Daily Gate City, Keokuk, the Bonny Buyer, and the Hancock County Journal, Carthage, IL. The sale also includes the digital web sites and niche publications. The Brehm family had owned and operated these publications for many years dating back to 1919.
Two Arkansas Newspapers Sold.

Argent Arkansas News Media has purchased the Forrest City Times-Herald and the Marianna Courier-Index from Weston and Kevin Lewey, according to Randy Cope of Cribb, Greene & Cope, who represented Times-Herald Publishing Company, Inc. in the transaction.
Argent Arkansas News Media is a newly formed company and the Times-Herald and Courier-Index are the only newspapers owned by the company as of this date. Argent is affiliated with other newspaper companies that own and operate newspapers throughout the United States and Canada with more than 175 publications comprised of daily and weekly newspapers and associated publications.

Three Iowa Daily Newspapers Sell To Cedar Rapids Media Company

Cedar Rapids Media Company has purchased the assets of three Iowa daily newspapers including The Fairfield Ledger, Mount Pleasant News, and Washington Evening Journal from the Murray family, according to Managing Director John Cribb, Cribb, Greene & Cope who represented the Murray family in the transaction.
“It was our desire to seek a buyer who had the financial resources and commitment to quality, who would preserve through the challenging times ahead to see these publications serving the communities of Mount Pleasant, Washington and Fairfield remain strong, healthy and vibrant for decades into the future,” said Brian Murray, Inland Industries chairman, in a statement.
Dix Family Sells Five Daily, Eighteen Weekly Publications to GateHouse Media

The Dix family, owner of Dix Communications has sold their five daily newspapers, 18 weekly publications, and related websites in northeastern and east-central Ohio to GateHouse Media according to John Cribb, Cribb, Greene & Cope who represented the Dix family in the transaction.
Dix operations include a printing facility in Wooster and more than 30 daily and weekly newspapers, online-only publications and specialty publications. The largest newspapers are the Record-Courier in Kent, The Daily Record in Wooster, The Ashland Times-Gazette, The Alliance Review and The Daily Jeffersonian in Cambridge.

The Eau Claire Press Company, a fourth-generation and fifth-generation family-owned media company with a daily newspaper, a weekly agricultural newspaper, a shopper product, a commercial printing division, digital and marketing services is being sold according to John Cribb, Cribb, Greene & Cope. The buyer of The Eau Claire Press Company’s assets is family-owned Adams Publishing Group, based in Minneapolis, Minn., and chaired by Stephen Adams.
Pioneer News Group selling seven daily and 15 weekly newspapers to Adams Publishing Group
October 5, 2017
The Pioneer News Group Co. today announced that it is selling its media division assets to family-owned Adams Publishing Group according to John Cribb and Randy Cope, who represented the sellers in the transaction. The sale will include 22 daily and weekly newspapers in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Utah along with a newspaper and commercial print facility, various shoppers and websites. The sale is expected to be finalized on November 1, 2017.

Sun Media Group has agreed to sell its assets to SJ Acquisition, a company controlled by RFB Holdings, which also owns MaineToday Media, Alliance Press in Brunswick and Courier Publications, based in Rockland. The sale is scheduled to close on August 1st. John Cribb and Randy Cope of Cribb, Greene & Cope brokerage firm represented the Costello Family in the transaction.

Adams Publishing Group acquires Mount Airy, NC Group from Champion Media

Adams Publishing Group is acquiring a Mount Airy, NC group of publications and associated websites from Champion Media, effective November 1, 2017 according to Gary Greene and Randy Cope of Cribb, Greene & Cope.
Mount Airy Group newspapers located in North Carolina to be included in the sale are The Mount Airy News, the Surry Scene, The Tribune (Elkin), The Yadkin Ripple, The Stokes News (King), The Pilot (Pilot Mountain) and the Jefferson Post (West Jefferson). Also included in the transaction is The Carroll News in Hillsville, Virginia.

Lee Enterprises sells Maysville, Kentucky to Champion Media

DAVENPORT, Iowa (February 1, 2018) — Lee Enterprises, Incorporated (NYSE: LEE), a major provider of local news, information and advertising in 50 markets, has sold its newspaper and digital media operations in Maysville, Kentucky to Champion Media LLC, including The Ledger Independent and maysville-online.com according to Randy Cope of Cribb, Greene & Cope who represented Lee Enterprises in the sale.
